Forrester evaluated the 11 most significant healthcare analytics providers. The new Wave is based on their ability to take cognitive analytics beyond marketing to help healthcare organizations (HCOs) better understand their customers and better determine risks/ROI for new initiatives.

Here is how the firms stacked up:

  • PwC is the sole leader in the space given its sophisticated approach to customer insights. The firm’s Health Industries Practice includes services and analytics platforms focused on accelerating HCOs’ ability to understand individual customers and drive improved outcomes. While PwC’s strategy to become a one-stop shop for healthcare analytics and professional services is a good one, the firm must strengthen its engineering bench to support this vision.
  • Arcadia.io, Cognizant and IBM are among the strong performers, which have key strengths but are lacking in certain areas. Arcadia.io offers a platform with robust data management geared for select markets, but the firm has limited support for metrics and a lack of plans to incorporate genomics data. Cognizant brings analytics for digital transformation, but next best action is limited. Additionally, IBM has robust analytics but falls short on detailed prescriptive insights.
  • Philips and Optum are considered contenders along with two additional firms due to their individual potential, but weaker current offerings. For example, Philips excels in interoperability, but lags in unstructured data and prescriptive insight, and Optum has clinical variation, but lacks prescriptive insight and a competitive road map.
