Lead Manager, Data Science, Starbucks

Alex Smith is a Lead Manager of Data Science on Starbucks’ Analytics and Insights team, and he has been with Starbucks for the past year and a half. Throughout his career, he has held roles as both the data scientist and the data engineer, working with startups and enterprise companies alike. More recently, he has acted as the manager of data scientists, focused on coaching and building world-class data science teams and products. As a data scientist, Alex has helped companies build recommendation engines, apply machine learning to employee well-being, develop models for classifying text in real time, and more. In 2015, Alex ranked in the top 1% of worldwide Kaggle.com machine learning competitors. He is passionate about developing data products to change the way we do business and interact with customers.
