Despite the growing emphasis on eCommerce and omnichannel strategies in retail, more than 50% of retailers plan to open new stores in 2019. These findings come from Forrester’s and NRF’s annual survey that analyzes how retailers are investing in their stores and online businesses.
Retailers still face challenges with omnichannel and personalization. Fifty-six percent stated inventory accuracy was a problem, while 65% cited issues with inventory planning systems. In-store personalization is also difficult due to limited data, infrequent visits from customers and small product catalogs. These factors force retailers to rely on personalizing content through segment emails or online recommendations, rather than in-store experiences.
